The first major update to the Spyder application for Blackberry mobile devices has been released on Blackberry AppWorld. This release contains a number of bug fixes, but also a few significant enhancements.

The largest enhancement is the addition of a hint system. This hint system allows the player to get a hint on a recommended move by pressing the 'h' key. It will also alert the player when there are no further moves to be made in the current game.

We are pleased to announce that Spyder has been released to BlackBerry App World™ storefront. This is Glass Tower Studios' first release to a public market like this and we are incredibly excited about having the opportunity to showcase our product on such an internationally-recognized marketplace. Read on for more information about this exciting product!

We've registered a new IRC channel on freenode. You can now access #glasstower on irc.freenode.net. This will be the new main support channel for all Glass Tower Studios products and services, and will also be used for all official Glass Tower IRC communications (meetings, etc...).

We're now recruiting a web designer for both our new mobile site, as well as our main site. The current main site (the one you're viewing now) has been in service for about 4 years, and is vastly in need of an update. Our web designers should have the following qualifications:

• Familiarity with PHP, CSS, HTML. (XML and MySQL a plus).
• Familiarity with multiple graphics formats, including at a minimum gif, png, and jpg.
• Experience programming PHP and/or CGI using Perl or C/C++.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Intuition for look and feel, user experience, and design abilities.

Sorry to report this problem, but it's become apparent to our staff that folks have been having trouble logging in to the main glasstowerstudios.com website (i.e. to the left of this post). If this is the case for you, and you either can't login, or can't create an account, please email us at support@glasstowerstudios.com, and we'll try to get the situation resolved as quickly as possible.

The beta version (release candidate 1) of Spyder, Glass Tower Studios' implementation of Spider Solitaire, has been released for free on the Glass Tower Studios Mobile Website. It can be downloaded from http://m.glasstowerstudios.com/Spyder.jad Currently, the state of the application is experimental, meaning that there are a number of known issues, as well as a couple of things that need to be cleaned up (e.g. the menus are a little bit boring, and the help screen isn't very helpful).

Since this is a beta release, it's to be expected that there are going to be a few growing pains. We encourage you to download the application (currently, it works for Blackberry Curve - 8300 series, as well as Blackberry Pearl - 8100 series, and the Storm - 9000 series, however the Storm version is *very* experimental) and try it out. Let us know at support@glasstowerstudios.com if you experience bugs or issues, or if you just want to comment that you love it!

Unfortunately, due to some problems with our systems, the release date for Spyder Solitaire was pushed back. Currently, there are intermittent problems with our web hosting and network infrastructure that need to be resolved before we can provide enough support for the initial release of this product.

The new release date for Spyder will be Friday, October 30 (just in time for Halloween!).

On Friday, October 9, Glass Tower Studios will be releasing a beta version of the classic solitaire game, Spider Solitaire. This product is entitled Spyder, and beta versions will be available for the Blackberry Curve (83xx) and Pearl (81XX) series devices. This product will be free to all users.

The release will be posted on the main website (here), as well as on our new mobile site, m.glasstowerstudios.com, when it is completed.

The current Glass Tower Studios logo has been in use since it's inception in 2005 (see above for the current banner, with the logo). While tried and true, it's probably time for an update. In addition to that, Glass Tower needs an identification movie for an intro before it's released games.

So, beginning in September, Glass Tower Studios is having a small drive to develop a new logo. This is targeted primarily for our current concept developers, but any creative individuals are welcome to submit ideas or movies. What we're looking for is a 2D logo, with the Glass Tower Studios name, along with a 5-10 second short movie that can be used as a studio identification clip prior to the opening menu for games.
