Ionization Blaster

The infamous Jawas of Tatooine are scavangers that collect metal, machinery, and droids. If they come upon an active droid, they use an ionization blaster that they haphazardly compiled. Then the Jawas will affix a restraining bolt to the droid to make it obey their commands.

The Jawas will strip off all internal parts of a blaster rifle except the power pack. Then a restraining bolt and accu-accelerator replace the stripped parts. The accu-accelerator can be taken from any capital-class starship that has a hyperdrive. When fired, the power pack activates the inserted restraining bolt which sends out an ion stream which is the equivilance of the command "halt". This would normally make the droid stop, but since it is amplified as it passes through the accu-accelerator the ion stream causes the droid to shut down for about 20 minutes. If the target is organic (living), then they only experience a painful sting, without severe injury.

Just like everything else Jawas make, the ionization blasters either work really well, or else they create a spectacular explosion. The typical ionization blaster has an optimum range of 8 meters with a maxiumum range of 12 meters.

There are professionally manufactured ionization guns created by Merr-Sonn that the Imperial soldiers have used. The Merr-Sonn creates the Destructive ElectroMagnetic Pulse (DEMP) gun. The settings on the DEMP range from temporarily disabling the droid to overload the droids internal circuitry and destroy the internal battery, which destroys the droid permenantly.
