Ord Mantell is located in the Mid Rim Region; Dufilvian Sector; Bright Jewel System. It has a temperate climate. The days are 26 standard hours. The years are 334 local days. The native species are Savrip and Human.

Some 12,000 years before the Battle of Endor, Corellian colonists settled on Ord Mantell. They built a military outpost, which was later abandoned due to its lessening role as a strategic point.

Ord Mantell was supposedly neutral, but when Han Solo arrived, shortly after the Battle of Yavin, to repair the Millennium Falcon their was an Imperial fleet stationed there. There he met Drub McKumb, an old smuggling friend, and learned of the bounty of his head. In an attempt to capture Solo, the bounty hunter Skorr captured Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa. He held them captive in an abandoned stellar energy plant on Ten Mile Plateau. Solo and Chewbacca managed to rescue Luke and Leia and get to safety. Later, Solo, Skywalker, and Chewbacca were captured by a group of bounty hunters working together. Skorr, Dengar, and Bossk worked with Boba Fett to capture Solo. The prisoners were then held in an abandoned moisture plant in the backcountry, but again they managed to escape.

Grand Admiral Thrawn assaulted Ord Mantell six years later because the New Republic was attacking his shipyard supply lines, and by attacking Ord Mantell, Thrawn was able to ease the stress.

The planet was eventually taken over by the Yuuzahn Vong, who wore the Mandalorian armor similar to Boba Fett. It was rumored that Fett was actually their leader.

Some sight-seeing on the planet might include its numerous moons, the canyon-rimmed spaceport, the Blockade Runners Derby, and Ten Mile Plateau. The planet is also known for its blue star and lenient banking laws.
