Master Vodo-Siosk Baas was one of the teachers around during the great Sith War, more than 4000 years before the Battle of Yavin. He trained his students on the planet of Dantooine. Unfortunately, he is remembered most often for the training of his greatest student, Exar Kun. While Exar Kun fell tragically to the Dark Side of the Force, many of Master Baas' other students were reknowned for their abilities with the Light Side.

Perhaps another of Master Vodo-Siosk Baas' greatest students was Nomi Sunrider, a brilliant and incredibly gifted Jedi. Nomi Sunrider was one of the few Jedi with the gift of Battle Meditation. She learned to use it under her study with Jedi Master Thon. While fairly unskilled at first with a lightsaber, Master Baas' eventually taught Nomi Sunrider to wield it as effectively as any other student, during her training at the Jedi Learning Center on Ossus.

Master Baas also trained the Cathar mates Slyvan and Crado. During a normal Jedi sparring match, Exar Kun proved himself to be much more adept at lightsaber combat than Crado. Upon seeing her mate defeated and humiliated by Kun, Slyvan confronted Kun. The battle was fierce, and Slyvan eventually slashed Kun across the face before also being defeated. Before Kun could land the final blow to Slyvan, Master Baas stepped in. True to his arrogant nature, Exar Kun met his master's challenge. Surprisingly, Kun defeated Baas in a duel where Baas wielded nothing more than his walking stick, but to do so Kun had to grab a second lightsaber. Distraught at the ease of his victory, Kun left his master behind, seeking knowledge beyond that which Baas could teach him. Master Vodo-Siosk Baas was worried with the potential for evil that he could see in his former student. Kun reached his former master once more, through The Force, when he was crushed beneath the ceiling of a Sith Tomb on Korriban, but Baas was turned away by the dark side aura around Kun.

During the course of the Sith War, Ulic Qel-Droma was taken prisoner, and brought before the Republic Senate on Coruscant to stand trial for his crimes against the Republic. As Qel-Droma was to be sentanced, Exar Kun burst through the doors, manipulating the audience with his Sith powers of illusion. Vodo-Siosk Baas alone stood against Kun. He was tempted by Kun to join the Sith, but refused. Instead, reliving his previous battle with his former master, Kun and Baas crossed lightsabers. Kun used a double-bladed lightsaber to battle with his former master. As the battle progressed, Kun gained strength as Baas lost strength. Eventually, Kun struck down his former master, but not before Baas vowed that he would defeat Exar Kun.

Bodo Baas, Vodo-Siosk Baas' descendant, later became the gatekeeper to one of the Jedi Holocrons. The Jedi Holocrons were a database of stored knowledge about the force. Many years later, Luke Skywalker used this holocron to teach his students at the Jedi Acadamy on Yavin. Kun's spirit destroyed the Holocron but Baas' and Skywalker's spirits along with the trainees destroyed Kun's spirit once and for all.
