The Great Schism

The Great Schism was the first Jedi Civil War, occuring around 25,000 years before the Battle of Yavin, during the formation of the Republic. Some force-sensitive individuals banded together to form the Jedi Order. It wasn't long before they gained a relationship with the Republic, became its peacekeepers and protecters.

Little was known of the Dark Side of the force at this time, and it wasn't long before a few Jedi began to secretly study its teachings. Soon, the Dark Jedi clashed with the Light, and it was Jedi against Jedi, brother against brother. This became known as the Great Schism: a conflict lasting around 100 years. And after that 100 years of carnage and disruction, the Light Jedi finally defeated the Dark. The battered Dark Jedi gathered ther battered troops and ships, and flew off into the unknown reaches of space.

After many years of wandering, the Dark Jedi eventually stumbled upon the Sith homeworld of Korriban. There the Dark Jedi found willing slaves with unlimited resources and created the powerful and rich Sith Empire. Thriving into the Sith Golden Age, they would come to an end almost 20,000 years later during the Great Hyperspace War.
